Ellen E Jones, Presenter
Ellen is a journalist and broadcaster specialising in television and film. Formerly chief TV critic at The Independent and a columnist for the Evening Standard and The Independent on Sunday, she now writes mostly for The Guardian and Empire and appears on BBC Radio 4 and BBC One. She’s the host of the Barbican’s ScreenTalks podcast. Ellen’s book Screen Deep, about racism and anti-racism on screen, was published by Faber in 2024.
Nick Freand Jones, Executive Producer
Nick has worked in broadcasting since the 1990s when he produced the legendary BBC TV series Moviedrome with Alex Cox and Mark Cousins. Since then he’s made dozens of documentaries for TV and radio on the likes of Jaws, the Shawshank Redemption and Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds. Nick’s collaborations with Mark Kermode include Secrets of Cinema for BBC Four and the monthly MK3D live show at the BFI.
Mark Kermode, Presenter
A noted double bass and harmonica player with skiffle-and-blues band The Dodge Brothers, Mark also shares his opinions about film as Chief Film Critic for the Observer, on the BBC News Channel Film Review and each week introduces a film for the BFI Player. He’s presented TV series including Secrets of Cinema and written a number of best-selling books. You can also see Mark live - and in person - at his monthly show at the BFI MK3D.
Jane Long, Lead Producer
Jane is a pop culture obsessive who specialises in making programmes about film and television. At the BBC Jane worked at most national radio networks before becoming a freelance audio and archive producer. She’s produced docs for Radio 4 on everything from 2001: A Space Odyssey to British panto and worked on TV series including Secrets of Cinema and Life Cinematic.
Nigel Smith, Editorial Consultant
Nigel’s been a movie-geek since he first went to the cinema to see Superman II. Having worked at the BBC for more than a decade, including as digital editor at Radio 4 and Radio 5 live, he’s now involved in various projects in addition to Screenshot. Nigel also co-runs Tufnell Park Film Club in North London.
Queenie Qureshi-Wales, Assistant Producer
Aside from Screenshot, Queenie produces Deep End on Sable Radio where she discusses the sleazier side of film with a focus on technology, sexuality and transgression on screen. She’s also a resident DJ on NARR Radio playing ambient, leftfield pop and all things scuzzy.
